Applying the Public Sector Duty in South Dublin County

10 May 2019

The Public Sector Duty imposes an obligation on public bodies to have regard to human rights and equality in their planning and delivery of services, and in their employment practices.

The Rights Platform and the Public Participation Network (PPN) were funded by the Irish Human Rights & Equality Commission (IHREC) to pilot the implementation of the Public Sector Duty across PPN and South Dublin County Council interfaces, with a view to embedding good practice in the Council and in the PPN.

This was a pilot initiative to identify how the Public Sector Duty can be brought into the planning and delivery processes of the Council. Naturally, because it involved changes in practices and procedures, there were challenges and frustrations, but there were also positive outcomes.

The final report of the project is available using this link.
